Lisa Anne Thompson Taylor
Founding Partner
Lisa Anne Thompson Taylor is the Founding Partner of Board Veritas, a national nonprofit consulting firm dedicated to partnering with organizations and communities to strengthen foundations, build resilience, and empower transformative, lasting impact. With over 25 years of experience, she brings a unique blend of pragmatic wisdom and visionary thinking to governance challenges.
Renowned for her ability to deliver counsel with "unvarnished truth," Lisa Anne navigates change through directness balanced with empathy, courage to tackle difficult topics, strategic insight that identifies critical truths, and credibility earned through consistent, transparent advice.
With an uncanny ability to identify the unspoken challenges that stall progress, she artfully surfaces critical issues that others often leave buried. As a skilled "board architect," Lisa Anne excels in the art of closed-door diplomacy—facilitating confidential, high-stakes discussions where sensitive organizational matters can be addressed with complete candor and discretion. This rare skill allows her to navigate complex power dynamics, build trust among diverse stakeholders, and broker transformative agreements that might otherwise be impossible in public settings.
Lisa Anne and her team focus on helping social causes thrive in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world by advocating two fundamental methodologies: increased professionalization of the nonprofit sector and cultivation of organizational cultural well-being—practices espoused by the board, implemented by the C-suite, and infused throughout the organization.
Clients in Board Veritas' portfolio span sectors and international borders, including renowned organizations like the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), The Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia), Habitat for Humanity affiliates, International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP), International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN), American Association of Thoracic Surgery (AATS), National Peace Corps Association (NPCA), and the Climate and Land Use Alliance (CLUA).
Deeply rooted in community engagement, Lisa Anne has served on multiple boards herself, including The International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN), the Rotary Club of Bar Harbor/MDI, FSC First (Maryland), National Association of Women Business Owners (Greater DC), and City Club of Washington Young Executive Board.
Prior to founding Board Veritas in 2010, Lisa Anne spent 15 years in the field working with nonprofits to raise funds, recruit board members, and forge institutional partnerships. She served as regional director of development for the National Kidney Foundation, associate director of alumni relations and development for the University of Maryland, and director of public affairs and fundraising at Days End Farm Horse Rescue.
Lisa Anne is a BoardSource Certified Governance Consultant (CGC), a member of the Association for Research on Nonprofits and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA), and the Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP).
