Benton Brown
Senior Consultant, Governance and Risk Advisory Practice | Fractional Chief Risk Officer

Benton Brown is a Senior Consultant in the Board Veritas Governance and Risk Advisory Practice, where he provides fractional Chief Risk Officer and risk assessment services to clients. A seasoned financial services professional, he brings over three decades of experience establishing and executing effective enterprise risk governance frameworks and balance sheet management programs.

Benton currently serves as fractional Chief Risk Officer for a regional bank. He is also a trusted advisor to fintechs and bank/fintech hybrids, helping them successfully navigate product development and risk governance requirements.

His fintech work includes a series of critical risk assessments for a fintech banking startup financing lease receivables, covering third-party vendors, operational and technology risks, and technology strategy. Benton used AI to provide an initial scan of emerging technology-related risks and to enhance existing management risk profiles. As the “human in the loop,” he reviewed and validated all risks and risk assessments. For an established buy now, pay later (BNPL) fintech, he led a team documenting Level 3 and Level 4 process flows in Signavio, an SAP tool, to identify key points of failure and opportunities to insert key controls. He provided the client’s risk team with a detailed, enterprise-wide assessment of current and planned automated key controls, which formed the basis for its future real-time control testing architecture.

Benton’s experience extends to the largest institutions. For a global systemically important bank’s (GSIB’s) treasury asset and liability management information system, he led a team of business and technical analysts in mapping data flows from more than 40 source systems. He developed a real-time testing strategy and business requirements to ensure daily data feeds were monitored for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. He also wrote business requirements to review derived data elements for fitness and validity.

Benton joined Board Veritas in 2025 as a Senior Consultant in the Governance and Risk Advisory Practice. He is currently conducting an AI risk assessment and governance review consistent with regulatory and industry standards.

Benton is a graduate of Columbia University in the City of New York and holds a Master’s in Economics from Trinity College, where he wrote his thesis on applying game theory to decision making under uncertainty. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and previously held Series 7 and Series 24 securities licenses.
